Precinct starts St Marys Bay build

Construction has commenced at Pillars, Precinct’s architecture-led residential development overlooking St Marys Bay, marking a significant milestone for the boutique project.

Head contractor, GN Construction, has mobilised on site with works beginning in September under a 22-month construction programme targeting completion in mid-2028.

Precinct chief executive, Scott Pritchard, says the start of construction demonstrates the company’s commitment to the project, the surrounding community and its long-term residential strategy.

“Precinct has spent 30 years delivering and managing complex, high-quality urban property and Pillars represents a carefully considered extension of that experience into residential development,” he says.

“Committing to construction is an important signal of our confidence in the project. Buyers can see that Pillars is now underway, supported by an experienced development team, and head contractor working to a defined delivery programme.”

The project represents an important step in the evolution of Precinct's residential strategy, marking its first on-balance-sheet residential development.

In its role as development manager, Precinct has delivered more than 180 homes in 2026 through the completion of Fabric² and The Domain Collection, with York House scheduled for completion in December 26.

Designed by architects Jasmax, Pillars occupies an elevated ridgeline position between College Hill and Dublin Street, comprising 20 spacious residences within walking distance of Ponsonby, Westhaven and Auckland’s central city.

Pritchard says the development responds to a gap in Auckland’s premium residential market.

“We saw an opportunity to create homes for people who love this neighbourhood but have struggled to find a low-maintenance option that delivers the space, functionality and quality they have come to expect from a traditional family home.”

“Commencing construction reflects our confidence in both the location and the enduring appeal of homes that are carefully considered, beautifully detailed and designed to stand the test of time.”

The development has attracted interest from local downsizers, professionals, and expatriate New Zealanders planning their return. It has also received positive feedback from the local community, including the St Marys Bay Residents Association.

Bayleys Projects sales specialist, Louise Stringer, who is marketing the development alongside colleague Dominique Donaghy, says:

“With every apartment measuring circa 200sqm, Pillars provides proportions rarely associated with boutique apartment living. Buyers are not being asked to compromise on space in exchange for security, convenience or lower maintenance,” she says.

Homes are available in two- and three-bedroom plus media room configurations. Full-depth floorplates provide dual aspects, abundant natural light and generous balconies or private garden retreats.

Integrated storage, smart-home technology, EV-ready parking and secure vehicle access with automatic number-plate recognition support everyday practicality.

The project is targeting a Homestar 6 rating – an independent rating system by the New Zealand Green Building Council that recognises homes designed to provide greater comfort, healthier indoor environments, energy and water efficiency.

“Pillars will deliver substantial, beautifully resolved homes for buyers who want to simplify their lives without diminishing the way they live,” Stringer says.

“The start of construction turns that proposition into something tangible. Purchasers now have a defined delivery programme, work commencing on site and a display suite where they can experience the scale, quality and considered detailing on their future home.”
