The successful launch of Pillars, an architecture-led collection of premium residences, rising above Saint Marys Bay, reinforces confidence in developments that prioritise quality, location, and design excellence.

Since unveiling over the summer, the landmark development, elevated over the Waitematā Harbour, has attracted a surge of enquiries and early sales activity, with the Bayleys sales team negotiating its first sale on launch weekend and momentum continuing steadily since.

Developed by Precinct, New Zealand’s largest owner and developer of premium city real estate, and designed by award-winning practice Jasmax, Pillars occupies a prized ridgeline site bridging College Hill and Dublin Street.

The two-building development presents a dual expression of place: Pillars of College, comprising 16 sculptural residences with a commanding street presence, and Pillars of Dublin, an intimate collection of four refined homes drawing on the villa character of Saint Marys Bay.

Bayleys Projects' national director, Suzie Wigglesworth, says the strength of demand has been most pronounced at Pillars of College, where interest remains firmly focused, while the strong sell-through of Pillars of Dublin, now three-quarters sold, has provided further validation of market depth and buyer confidence.

“Pillars has arrived at a moment when improving economic fundamentals, consumer sentiment, and a structural shortage of high-quality residences are reshaping buyer behaviour.

“After a challenging 24 months for development sales, the project highlights that when developments are done right – thoughtfully designed, well-priced, and genuinely connected to their communities – they can succeed in any market.”

Bayleys Projects sales specialist Louise Stringer says the response since launch has exceeded expectations. “The feedback on Pillars so far has been really encouraging. Our sales team has had strong engagement from buyers across the community and further afield, with a great spread of enquiry coming through.”

“We’re seeing interest from buyers in Saint Marys Bay, Freemans Bay, and Herne Bay, as well as Remuera – people with a strong connection to the area who are looking for something that feels special, but is also easy to live in.”

Stringer adds that buyers are responding strongly to the architectural quality and interiors designed by Jasmax with an uncompromising attention to detail. “The luxurious finishes feel both elegant and practical, and upper-level apartments’ harbour and city views have become a real talking point.”

“What keeps coming up is how much buyers trust Precinct as the developer – there’s genuine confidence in the finished product.”

Precinct’s residential sales manager, Maria Salmon, says the Pillars’ early success has been underpinned by strong local support. “Buyers have predominantly been locals transitioning from larger family homes into homes that offer greater ease of living,” she says. “The north-facing site, elevation, views over Saint Marys Bay, and the convenience of apartment living have resonated strongly.”

Salmon notes that the consistency of the residences – each circa 200sqm (more or less) with high-quality interiors, generous green space and thoughtful amenity – has struck a chord with both buyers and the wider community. “It was particularly heartening to receive positive feedback from the Saint Marys Bay Residents Association, who have commented on how well the development fits with the neighbourhood.”

Extensive ground-floor gardens, dual-aspect layouts, penthouse-level amenity as standard, and smart, future-ready features further elevate the offering. The nearby display suite, featuring a detailed scale model and full-scale replica kitchen and bathroom, provides buyers with a tangible sense of the architecture, finishes, and spatial quality.

Positioned between the city and the sea, Pillars reflects renewed confidence in Auckland’s premium apartment market – and a clear appetite for architecture-like living that honours its setting while raising expectations for urban refinement.
