James Macpherson has always taken the long term view, he knows the secret to real estate… it’s about the people.

Raised on a sheep and beef farm on the fringes of Gisborne and involved in shepherding and farming for the early part of his working life, James embarked on his real estate career in late 1993. Quick to succeed and constantly looking for ways to improve and develop in 1996 he purchased a real estate business which he was instrumental in then transitioning into Bayleys Gisborne in 1998.

A recognised and trusted specialist in the rural field, James has developed countless relationships with key contacts in the industry from those at the grassroots to those in the upper echelon. James is often called on for advice and comment on sale conditions and consistently adds value to the marketing and sale of every property he is involved with. James feels privileged to have been involved in the marketing and sale of the majority of large stations, pastoral farms, and horticultural properties in the East Coast region since the beginning of his career, as well as a number of significant commercial sales.

Recipient of the Graham Bayley Award in 2009 for services to Bayleys, James was recognised for his contribution to sales and growth and to the development of his sales and support teams. Whilst rural sales has been James’ speciality he has always been very involved in all aspects of the real estate industry and brings invaluable knowledge and experience in the commercial, residential and coastal sectors as well.

The Bayleys team in Gisborne has grown extensively under James’ leadership and continues to improve and adapt to an ever changing and challenging market. The Gisborne team is now home to market leaders in all sectors and a consistently strong market share is testimony to James’ dedication, mentoring, and the overarching customer service principles at the centre of his business.

James takes great pride in the achievements to date, attributing these to the strong family culture at the heart of Bayleys Gisborne and the innovative marketing strategies put in place by the quality agents who call it home.

Always looking to develop and further confirming his commitment to Bayleys and the real estate industry, in July 2017 James expanded his interest by purchasing the Bayleys Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa territories.

Now the Principal Officer of Bayleys from the top of the East Cape through to Cape Palliser, James is looking forward to driving business and growth, expanding and developing the elite agents under his leadership and strengthening the networking and communication between all of the offices on the eastern side of the North Island.
